In Egypt on the heart of Giza governorate and by the river Nile, Stands the Research Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) In Egypt.

RIO History

  • Prof. Dr. Abdel-Mohsen Soliman, Professor of Ophthalmology, Ain Shams University “the initiator and the donor of the Institute’s land (4480 m2 ) overlooking the Nile River”.
  • On February 1989, according to the Presidential Decree No 40, RIO was established as an independent research institute affiliated to the Ministry of Scientific Research in Egypt combines both clinical and research services and dedicated to ophthalmic research & management of eye diseases.
  • On February 25, 1990, RIO organizational structure was approved by the Egyptian Central Agency for Organization and Administration.
  • Prof. Dr. Magdolene El-Gamal, Professor of Microbiology, the first president of the Research Institute of ophthalmology.
  • On Sunday April 3, 1990, the institute was officially launched.
