TICO office

A contract was signed on 01/27/2020, between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology headed by Prof. Mahmoud Saqr and the Research Institute of Ophthalmology, to establish an office for Supporting technology, Innovation, commercialization and technology transfer (TICO).

The office consists of three units:

  • Technology Transfer and Marketing Office (TTO)
  • Technology Innovation Supporting  Center (TISC)
  • Grants and International cooperation Office (GICO)

An agreement was signed with the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications in Burj  Al Arab.

This cooperation aims to produce new pharmaceutical drugs in the field of ophthalmology of benefit and economic return that contribute to supporting the economy and reducing imports.

  • A cooperation protocol was signed with Center for Drug discovery Research and Development at Ain Shams University – to innovate anti-bacterial drugs for treating infectious eye infections by using economical natural products.

  • Establishing a new research unit, which is the first of its kind in Egypt (Ocular Pharmacology), the Council of the Academic Sciences Department approved the establishment of this unit on 7/21/2020, and it was approved by RIO’s Board of Directors on 10/6 /2020, to be legally approved by the Organization and Management Authority.
  • Online 49 workshops and lectures were organized by members of the TTO office, attended by researchers.
  • Manufacture of prototypes of new surgical instruments for eye surgery
    • Where the institute has some innovations in this field that have obtained patents, Which requires a workshop with special specifications to manufacture it with the required accuracy.
    • Cooperation is currently undergoing with the Science and Technology Center of Excellence for the Ministry of Military Production to produce prototypes in procedure for marketing.
  • The TICO office has been authorized to follow up 2 patents registered with the following numbers and Titles
    • Patent application number: EG / P / 2016/1233
    • Subject of the invention: A thin strip of gold for implantation for glaucoma operations.
    • Patent Application No.: EG / P / 2014/695 –
    • Subject of the invention: Assistant and guide for intraocular injection.
  • The intellectual property policy has been established and is being presented to the Institute’s Board of Directors for approval.
  • The financial regulations of the TICO office were approved by the Institute’s Board of Directors.
  • The institute has been submitted for participation in the entrepreneurship clubs and being to be approved by the Academy of Scientific Research.
